Two Hearts
Antebellum Swiss describes how a friend explained his bi-cultural life, „ I have two hearts beating inside me. “ I don’t just have two hearts I have two homes; my southern one and my Swiss one. I have been blessed to live in two of the most fabulous countries in the world. I have made eastern Switzerland my home for the last 30 years and love it, but I will never forget or stop being influenced by my heritage as a southerner.
Why Antebellum instead of Southern?
What do you think of when you hear the word Antebellum? The country band Lady Antebellum or do images of white columned Gone with the Wind” Tara’s spring to mind? Why did I choose the term Antebellum instead of southern? Hundreds of countries across the world have a south. I certainly did not choose it for the Webster’s definition.
I chose Antebellum because it reminds me of a gentle, warm and friendly, traditional way of life. It reminds me of my childhood, growing up in Memphis, Tn. in the 60’s and 70’s.
